Rated by Exquisitektc.com as the month of awesome and noteworthy sunsets, Lina’la Isla (Island Life) came to life in November of 2009 when owners Brenda (fox), Karen (bunny rabbit), and Jaclyn Michelle (turtle) decided to introduce a new idea to the only place that they call home—the Marianas.

Lina’la Isla is the Chamorro translation for the English terms ‘island life,’ which is a name that the sisters felt would be most appropriate. Originally wanting something that encompassed the ideas along red rice, finadene, beach barbeques, slippers, relaxed and laid back life, sandy beaches…all three sisters shared the same sentiment—“we live on an island; we live…the island life.” That was it.

The Cabrera sisters were inspired. After hours of research, online shopping, studying, and questions being routed amongst each other, they felt that enough time had gone by—it was time to let the ideas materialize. The sketches were drafted back, to back, to back with names for sketches being in numbers; 1 Lina’la Isla, 2 Lina’la Isla, 3 Lina’la Isla. After the eighth design was sketched out, the sisters knew that it was time to finally meet with the printing company.

One minute.
One day.
Tuesday.
Thursday.
Sunday.

Seventy shirts, much anticipation, and a week and a half after the initial meeting, Lina’la Isla’s first order was delivered to its distributor.

Lina’la Isla is a unisex clothing label with the intention of offering locals and tourists a different approach to the latest local trends. “We wanted something that our parents would wear, something also for our grandparents, in-laws, aunties and uncles, cousins, and friends. We knew that the name was the first issue, if not one of the most important aspects; design was the second. Both issues were severe obstacles, and both needed to be overcome immediately," said turtle as she recalled Lina'la Isla's mission.

Saipan t-shirts, tourist t-shirts, local t-shirt company, island t-shirt, island wear, Marianas clothing, Chamorro t-shirt designers, made in the Marianas...whatever the name may be or however one decides to describe it, Lina'la Isla is here to stay.

Four designs, many challenges, obstacles, and hours sitting in front of the computer, Lina’la Isla continues producing its clothing line, sold exclusively at Surf Turf, which is located in Garapan immediately north of the I Love Saipan novelty shop. Additionally, Lina'la Isla has a website that is under construction and is actively collecting friends on Facebook--don't hesitate to be a friend; [email protected]. Furthermore, photo shoots are always in the works so that viewers are up-to-date with this clothing company's latest.

Stay tuned to see what's coming and whose face will be the next for the Marianas' Lina'la Isla, Island Life.
